Theodor Bogler (form) and Gerhard Marcks (decor), Mug with portraits of Otto Lindig and Johannes Driesch, 1922

This mug is an unusual document of the intensive working and living community formed by the Bauhaus members in Dornburg. On the vessel, turned by Bogler, Gerhard Marcks painted the stylized portraits of apprentices Otto Lindig and Johannes Driesch. Emphasizing the sculptural form, it is stylistically influenced both by models from antiquity and by contemporary artistic forms of expression in Cubism and abstract art.
