Porcelain Design

21.08.-04.11.2013

Barbara Schmidt is one of Germany’s most successful designers and represents a new generation that is taking a fresh approach to the design of everyday objects – in this case porcelain – adapting to the needs of a newly emerging society, without denying the traditions of the material involved and of form.

Like the Bauhaus, Barbara Schmidt also aims to improve people’s life-worlds by uniting art and technology. The designer convincingly implements this attitude in her free artistic works, in teaching, and as head designer at KAHLA/Thüringen Porzellan, Ltd. The company’s new conceptual approach has led to a German success story in which Barbara Schmidt played a decisive part.

The Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung therefore took this opportunity to present an appreciation of this exceptional designer and her work in a one-person exhibition for the first time.
