In this workshop we embark on a journey to the dawn of photography. The “photogram” – photographic shadow play which requires no camera – is as old as the medium itself. The participants discover how to make strange and wondrous images by using a simple light source and more-or-less transparent objects, and learn about the significance of light, time and space in photography. The workshop is open to children and adults, and no prior experience in photography is necessary.

Erika Babatz learned how to look through a camera at the age of ten. She studied journalism in Mexico and has earned her master’s degree in aesthetics in Madrid. Today she teaches photography in Berlin, works in the photo archive of the Bauhaus-Archiv and continues conducting photographic experiments.

Practical tip: Please bring several objects which can fit onto a DIN A4 page, a small flashlight with sufficient battery power, a smock or old clothes. Workshop language: German
